Brightest LED
torch
The brightest LED torch that I have ever used is the Fenix
TK40. It's so
hard to imagine how bright this torch really is unless you can see it in person. Amazingly this torch runs off
AA batteries and can throw the beam of light over 300 m. To do this, the torch has a power output of 630 lumens
of light.
This truly is an astonishing amount of light coming from this
LED torch. And the fact that it only runs on AA batteries I find quite hard to believe, but sure enough
yes it does. The TK 40 flashlight by Fenix is designed to use eight of the AA batteries. But it will
actually run with just four AA batteries for emergency and temporary use, although this is not recommended for
prolonged usage.
With the eight batteries fully loaded the torch weighs as
according to my kitchen scales 494 g rounded up which makes it half a kilogram. In comparison to my mag light,
which is a three D cell battery torch, it weighs in at 871 grants. So round figures, there's a difference in
weight between the two of about 370 g. Is that noticeable when you're holding them? Well yes it is.
The length of the TK 40 is just shy of 21cm or about 8 inches.
And the mag light is about 31cm long which is about 1 foot. The diameters of the two torches are about the same
with the TK 40 about 42mm and a mag light about 38mm. This is the difference of roughly 4 mm but between you and
me you can't really tell the difference.
Now hands down this LED torch is way brighter than the mag
light. Some of the reasons why this is one of the brightest LED torches that I have ever used are. The torch
uses a Cree MC-E LED bulb that not only has a maximum light output of 630 lumens but also has a life expectancy
of 50,000 hours. LED globes are known for their minimal power draw. This torch is no exception of that rule,
with the torch being able to run for 150 hours straight. If you were to divide 150 hours into 24 hours you get
6.24 days of run time. I mean come on, over six days a runtime that's amazing. No way in the world would the mag
light run for six days, even with the larger D cell batteries.
Another thing that makes the Fenix TK40 one of the brightest LED
torches is the amazing amount of spill that the torch gives off. For those who don't know, the spill is how wide
the beam is. And the center of the beam has so much power to cut through the dark night sky you’d think you
were driving in your car with your high beams on. I can honestly say that I'm totally happy with my purchase of
the Fenix TK 40 and it really is one of the brightest LED torches around. For camping, fishing or hunting this
flashlight is the ticket. Go here to see the excellent price of a Fenix TK40, it's the Brightest LED Torch I've seen.
